Nigeria-Africa Trade Summit: Strengthening Ties for Continental Growth
Nigeria continues to assert its leadership role in West Africa, hosting the 2025 Nigeria-Africa Trade Summit in Lagos. The event has drawn heads of state and business leaders from across the continent to discuss the practical implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The Nigerian government used the platform to sign bilateral agreements with three neighboring countries aimed at removing non-tariff barriers that have historically stifled cross-border trade.

Diplomatic relations have also been a focus, particularly regarding stability in the Sahel region. Nigeria's foreign policy team is championing a 'development-first' approach to regional security, arguing that economic integration is the most effective tool against insurgency. This shift in strategy has been welcomed by ECOWAS partners who are weary of purely military interventions.
Attracting Foreign Direct Investment
The summit also served as a pitch to global investors. With recent credit rating upgrades, Nigeria is positioning itself as the premier investment destination in Africa. Government officials highlighted improvements in the ease of doing business and the digitalization of port operations as key indicators that the country is open for business.
